Design for a Gothic temple, c1758, executed (1)

Though Bolton describes this building as a chapel, it is a garden temple, located 1 1/4 miles north of Kedleston Hall. The authorship of the temple is unclear. It appears to have been designed - if not built - prior to Adam's arrival, and Adam had then acquired this drawing, probably when he was appointed to design the landscape architecture in 1759. The building survives in situ and is now used as a house.
