Preliminary design and finished drawing for a chimneypiece for the drawing room, as executed, 1761 (2)

This chimneypiece was carved by Benjamin and Thomas Carter. According to Stillman this type of chimneypiece design had been used by the Adams in Scotland, in the drawing room at Arniston, and was reused by Robert Adam throughout the first seven or eight years of his career in England.
