Survey drawings, St Peter's, Walworth, London, 1822 (2)

The first of the two plans can be seen as preliminary surveys with a design for a church. They are quite sparsely labelled, and designed to show a potential position for the church. The second is far more detailed, including more street names, the ownership of the land, and a greater understanding of the surrounding houses and environment. In both cases the church is positioned in the same place, and is simply outlined and filled in. Once the site was finalised, Soane had one more site plan with a detailed ground plan of the church produced for 1823 (SM 54/6/2). The area at this time was quite sparsely populated, with few houses and as (SM 54/6/1) notes, those located from Turnpike Lane to the proposed entrance would be purchased, and presumably demolished to make a straight and uninterrupted vista to the church gates.
