Design for a bed, 1772; it is not known if this design was executed (1)

Presumably this bed was designed for the same bedchamber as Adam’s mirror frame design (Adam volumes 3/62 and 20/93). As no furniture designed by Adam survives at the house, it is not known if this design was executed.

Of this design Harris has written: 'Bolton attempts unconvincingly to relate the design to Queen Charlotte’s bed at Hampton Court. Apart from a few faint similarities (the anthemion antefixes and parts of the ornament of the posts), which are common to most beds of this period, the two pieces are markedly different, Queen Charlotte’s bed having no dome, and a straight cornice without the broken pediment and urn.’
