Owing to the inscription on the preliminary design for this chair (Adam volume 6/154) it has previously been suggested that it was intended for Lord Stanley's dressing room on the parlour (ground) storey, which was used as an occasional bedchamber. Owing to the Etruscan style of the chair design, however, it is more likely that it was intended for the bedchamber on the first floor, which was decorated en suite with the Etrucan dressing room next door.

As no such chair survives, and it was not illustrated in The works in architecture of Robert and James Adam, it is not known if the chair for Lord Stanley's bedchamber was executed in accordance with Adam's extant design.
