Alternative designs for a funerary monument to David Garrick, 1779, unexecuted (3)

All three of these drawings show slightly different schemes for the same monument. It was commissioned in 1779 in memory of David Garrick. Sir Watkin was David Garrick's friend and pall bearer, and Adam was his friend and neighbour. The monument was not executed, but there is a drawing similar to Adam volume 1/250 in the collection at the British Museum which was donated to that collection in 1948 by the Williams-Wynn family.

No monument to Garrick was executed at Wynnstay, but instead, a column in memory of Sir Watkin himself was erected in the park in c1790 to designs by James Wyatt (1746-1813).
