1789-1808 Chimney-pieces for the Bank of England (19)

The designs for chimney-pieces for the Bank are all, bar one, in the same two folders (drawer 81). The designs range in date from 1786 to 1824. They are mostly working drawings, with full size or half-full size details, and were originally kept in portfolios as exemplars that could be re-used by the office for other schemes. This office practice is one that continues today. The inscriptions on drawings 6 and 11 show that Soane re-used many of the designs - for Bank branches in Bristol and Liverpool. The inscription on drawing 6 also shows it was re-used for a Bishop’s residence.
