Designs for decoration and furniture, as executed, c. 1792 (2)

The drawings are as executed. Drawing 42 shows the striated pendentive with a rosette and lion's mask patera on the spandrels. Drawing 43 is a plan for the layout of the counters and desks. The Bank Stock Office hall was one of four transfer offices in the east wing of the Bank of England where owners of Bank and government stocks would come to register ownership transfers and to collect dividends. Specifically, the Bank Stock Office accomodated business related to the Bank's own stock and some government securities, including Long Annuities and 3% 1726 stocks. The plan reveals the commercial function of the hall, with a clear separation between the working space for the clerks, tellers and their records, and the public space for potentially large crowds.
