This scheme was approved at a meeting on 12 July 1811 with the Master and other College authorities. SM 65/4/37 and SM 65/4/34 are inscribed with the names of those who attended. The event is documented in the ‘Private Sittings’ books of the College. It was presented as a block plan, two detailed plans and two elevations. George Bailey and John Buxton were working on these drawings at the office. The final design was for the new Gallery, with the almshouses and Mausoleum, built as a single block to the south-west of the College.

A new estimate was made amounting to £11,800. This estimate exceeded the budget and consequently construction was delayed. With the £5,800 raised by the College, the £2,000 in Bourgeois’ will for the refurbishment of the gallery and the £1,000 he left for the building of the Mausoleum, there was still a shortfall of £3,000.

Some pencil additions were made to these plans, presumably resulting from discussions during the meeting, concerning dimensions, the position of the Mausoleum and the addition of the east arcade.
