Finished drawing and record drawing for the chimneypiece in the library, 1768, as executed (2)

The design is not the same as that shown in the library elevations in Adam volume 50/67, where the chimneypiece is ornamented identically to the doors, with corbels atop the stiles and a frieze of festoons and rosettes. In the drawing room Adam had planned a unified scheme for chimneypieces and doorframes which had been rendered impossible by the existing chimneypiece, so a unified scheme for the library would possibly have drawn attention to the disunity in the other.
