The two finished drawings represent alternative designs, presumably distinguished by price as the painted roundels in Adam volume 11/257 would cost considerably more than the rosettes in Adam volume 13/90. Despite the damage to the ceiling, we can be certain that it is Adam volume 11/257 which was executed, as the flanking panels in the surviving design clearly show an inner border.
