Design for a table for the gallery, 1765, as executed (1)

Adam billed for this design in July 1765. The tripod table was executed in accordance with the drawing, possibly by France and Bradburn or Samuel Norman. It was made for the gallery at 19 Arlington Street, behind the saloon on the first floor, which was ornamented with paintings by Giovanni Battista Cipriani. The accompanying pier glass mirror frame can be seen in Adam volume 20/12. A similar table was made by the same cabinetmaker for Moor Park. This was moved to 19 Arlington Street - along with the tapestries - in 1784, and installed in the blue drawing room. Both tables were sold at Christie's, London, in 1934, and their present whereabouts is not known.
