Finished drawings for the great staircase, c1777, as executed (3)

Adam’s design for the great staircase survives intact, complete with plasterwork ornamentation and painted canvas panels depicting classical landscapes, which have been attributed to Antonio Zucchi. King notes four surviving ornamental panels depicting dancing girls set within medallions. King points to a match for designs SM Adam 18/73-76. The same designs were incorporated in the executed ceiling for the study at Moreton Hall, for which no drawings survive, and were also possibly employed for the ornamentation of a commode designed for Osterley Park.
