Drawing 1 is a copy of a preliminary design shown to the client on 7 April 1790. Soane called on John Weyland with a fair drawing of the offices addition to Woodeaton Manor (Journal No 1). The drawing must not have been approved, as further designs were presented in April and May.

The offices are arranged around a single passage that extends west from the Kitchen Court to the house. The surrounding landscape is included in the drawing to show how the office block will be hidden from both the south and north fronts.
