Working drawings for the balustraded parapet, pilasters and Ionic portico, March to April 1795 (6)

On 25 March 1795, Soane sent to Lorrimer working drawings for the capitals to the Ionic portico as well as a drawing of the pilaster capitals and a drawing of the cornice to the attics (Journal No 2). On 30 April, he sent to Richards 15 working drawings for the house, including a drawing of the mouldings to the balustrade.

Drawing 61 was sent to the site and drawing 62 is its copy kept at the office. The drawing was sent to Mr Richards, the clerk of works at Tyringham, on 30 April and received by him on 5 May. The drawing includes a profile section of the balustrade that resembles an axonometric drawing omitting the plan, as well as a full size drawing of the balustrade's base and cornice mouldings. The balusters are each 6 inches wide and resting on a base that measures 1 foot 10½ inches tall.

The verso of drawing 62 is an elevation of the corner of the house, showing the parapet with intervals of balustrades with six balusters. The corner of the building is marked by twin pilasters and a corresponding projecting entablature. The cornice surrounding the house is ornamented with horizontal incised mouldings.

Drawing 63 is also a copy of a drawing delivered, this time to Mr Lorrimer. It shows the capitals to the pilasters fronting the house (see drawing 62 verso).

Drawings 64 to 66 are for the Ionic capitals of the portico, to be sent to Mr Lorrimer. A note on drawing 64 (in Soane's hand) orders the capitals to be made for less than 8 guineas each.
