Designs for a relief panel for the funerary monument of Lieutenant-Colonel Roger Townshend, 1760, executed with alterations (2)

A duplicate of this design for the relief panel was sent to Luc-François Breton in Rome in order for him to make a terracotta model. Breton's model differed from the drawing, with additional foliage and weaponry, and it was copied faithfully by Joseph Eckstein who carved the marble panel for the monument. Eckstein's marble panel remains in situ though some of the heads of the figures have been lost.

This design for the death scene relief panel is similar to those in two of Adam's elevations for the monument (Adam volumes 54/2/9, 54/2/8 and 19/9-10).

The design of Adam volume 19/68 and 19/66 is similar to that for the unexecuted death scene relief panel for the Wolfe monument (SM Adam volume 19/67), and they are also drawn by Agostino Brunias.
