The interior of the lodge has a hexagonal centre surrounded by six segmental arches, each arch supporting a section of the tent-like ceiling to form a six-sided variation of Soane’s canopy dome. Overhead is a hexagonal lantern with yellow glass (P. Dean, p. 195). Drawing 36 is a view as seen from the entrance of the lodge. A bedroom is to the left and the staircase to the right, each behind doors set in panelled wood partitions with six windows. Wood panels also surround the mullion windows to either side of the entrance. The chimney-piece appears to be made of local sandstone and is surmounted by a white marble pedestal resembling a cinerary urn and crowned by a double-scrolled acroterion. The pedestal has an inscription, illegible in the drawings. The room is sparsely furnished, with simple chairs and a table. The lodge was probably a residence for the gate-keeper.

The entrance portico is shown in drawing 35. The two entrances and two windows have triangular arches, supporting the four sides of a vaulted ceiling. The entry to the lodge is set within a panelled partition, with narrow mullioned windows to either side of the door. A feint view of Pell Wall may be seen in the background.
