Working drawing for the exterior, 21 May 1798

Drawing 162 was sent to John Pullinger, the clerk of works at Bentley Priory and a master carpenter and clerk of works at various Soane buildings, such as Aynhoe Park in 1799 (q.v.). The drawing shows the exterior of the entrance court and a detail of the cornice. The exterior has alterations for a round-headed recessed panel between the pilasters. The pilasters, as in previous designs (drawings 155 to 159) have reduced capitals and shadow gaps at their bases. A large dentillation, each dentil measuring 6 inches wide, surrounds the exterior. The rounded alcoves are covered with lead and the centre range has a pitched slate roof.
