Variant designs for the entrance hall, cApril 1798 (4)

The cross sections of the entrance hall (drawings 142 to 144) show variant designs for the segmental-headed arch surrounding the entrance. The drawings also show variant dimensions to the Doric order. The modifications made to drawing 142 are shown in finished form in drawing 143, with a higher ceiling measuring 17 feet 7½ inches high, columns on bases measuring 1 feet 6 inches, entablatures 2 feet 10½ inches and columns 10 feet 7½ inches. Drawing 143 also has a king-post roof added in rough pen.

The longitudinal section, drawing 145, corresponds to the design in drawing 143. Doric orders with 1/3 fluted columns and complete entablatures frame two alcoves on both walls. The centre of the wall features a round-headed window. Soane has altered the drawing in rough pen to include an alternative ornamentation, coffered arches, and rustication on the lower part of the wall.
