Designs for finishings to the attic, 31 October 1789 (2)

According to the executed plan on drawing 19, the attic floor is 8 feet high (as opposed to 7 feet high in earlier plan drawing 13). There were six bedrooms in the attic of Soane's addition; drawings 32 and 33 show designs for a room facing south but the same finishings were applied to all of the rooms. The bedroom is surrounded by a simple base and cornice, with one door measuring 3 feet by 6 feet 6 inches. According to Soane's pencil notes on drawing 32, the cornice is the same as in the first floor. The chimney-piece is made of Portland stone, having 3 inch paneled jambs, a 'large cornice', and a 2½ inch frame to the fire-place opening. One of the designs on drawing 32 shows the chimney-piece having a paneled frieze between roundels, while the other designs on the sheet have the jambs surmounted by the 'large cornice'.
