Alternative preliminary designs for chairs and design for a sofa for the Etruscan / octagonal dressing room, c1778, possibly executed (2)

Both Harris and Lea suggest that the design for the sofa (Adam volume 17/82) was intended for the Etruscan dressing room. Dimensions of the recess in which the sofa was to be set, combined with the use of black ground, compliments Adam’s designs for both the wall elevations and ceiling, making this the most likely location for its setting.

Further preliminary designs for chairs (SM Adam volume 17/82) suggest additional seating was intended.
