Preliminary designs and designs for unknown carpets, c1759-68 (5)

Adam volumes 17/164 and 17/165 are inscribed in an office hand with the name Sir Nathaniel Curzon and therefore they must date to before April 1761 when Curzon was created Lord Scarsdale. Moreover, Stillman notes that these drawings are in the heavy style of the early Adam office. The other drawings are not inscribed and so it is more difficult to date them, although Adam volume 54/1/7 is also in the heavy style of the early office. It is not known if these carpets were executed, but if so they do not survive.
