Preliminary design for alterations to the entrance (south) front of the original house, c1761-63, partly executed (1)
This drawing shows the entrance (south) front of Henry Keene's original house at Bowood. Here Adam has proposed the removal of the canted bows in the projecting end bays in favour of Venetian windows. This was not executed. Adam's portico, however, which is shown in this drawing, was executed in 1763, and remained in situ until the demolition of the original house in 1955. See scheme notes.
