Preliminary designs and finished drawings for adding wings, links and an entrance loggia to the house, c1768, unexecuted (8)

In 1768 Adam produced various schemes for making additions to Eaton Hall. We can see from these drawings that he proposed the addition of pavilions and/or wings attached to the original central block by links, as well as an entrance loggia supporting a portico and pediment.

Adam volume 39/96 shows a cellar storey which only extends underneath the original central block. As there are no elevation drawings showing the central block for this scheme, it is not possible to understand the arrangement of the windows. It is assumed that the cellar is half, or three-quarters, sunk, and that the windows shown on this plan are half-height, in order to allow for the ground storeys of the central block, links and pavilions (Adam volume 39/97) to run together seamlessly.
