Designs for a chimneypiece for the drawing room, 1765, unexecuted (2)

It is not known if this chimneypiece design was made for a new house (Adam volumes 10/73, 28/57, 28/58), or for the old house, but either way it does not appear to have been executed.

The pencil inscriptions on these drawings, Mr Olivers Drawing Room, and 3d House / River front Parlor, suggest that Adam had intended to reuse the design at the Adelphi, as was the case with various other chimneypiece designs of the 1760s. Whether or not the 3d House / River front was the home of Mr Oliver is not known. A close variant copy of the design was made for the front parlour of 3 Royal Terrace (Adam volume 24/27), corresponding with the inscription on Adam volume 22/148.
