Designs for final revisions for Holy Trinity Church, Marylebone, London, June 1827 (3)

These two plans show one of the difficulties in the overall commission of Holy Trinity Church. There had to be enough free seats alongside the paid pews as part of the overall Church Commissioners Act of 1818. Holy Trinity was to be designed to house 2000 parishioners, of which a quarter (500) had to be free seating. The drawings reveal Soane making alterations to the plans, reducing the number in the nave to 480, whilst the plan of the gallery seems to suggest an additional 64 free seats, which if so, means Soane exceeded the required number.
