Designs for doors, Holy Trinity Church, Marylebone, London, August 1824, January 1826 (2)

The designs for the doors are valuable for the inscriptions. They are both designated for the west entrance to the Church. Whilst this may be true for the 1824 version (SM 54/2/21), it cannot be for the 1826 drawing (SM 54/4/23). By this time, Holy Trinity Church had been reorientated north-south, and thus these doors would be situated on the southern (principal front) entrance. What mitigates this situation is SM 54/4/23 is a copy dated to January 1826, and must refer to an earlier drawing, which may have been given to the Commissioners or another party before the decision to reorientate the church. It would not affect the design in any way, they would be simply be transferred to the south side.
