Working drawings for sculptural additions to the Admiralty Screen, as executed, 1759 (2)

The nautical ornaments on the Admiralty Screen were sculpted by Michael Henry Spang (d.1762), a native of Denmark. He was also responsible for executing several of Adam’s chimneypiece designs for Kedleston (c1760). The relief panels on either side of the screen arch, depicting boys holding dolphin tails, are repeated in the centre of the drawing room ceiling at Hatchlands (SM Adam volume 11/3).
