Anonymous. By the Chevalier Béthune. Armillary sphere woodcut device on title-page. Both volumes have an engraved head-piece. The first and last leaves of the second part are blank. Unlike many other imaginary voyages, this extraterrestrial utopian fantasy was intended more as an amusing fable than a political work (cf. the 'Avertissement').
Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for 6d, 25 January 1804. (Archives 7/3/3). Inscribed in ink on second front free-endpaper John Soane/ 1804 over Thomas Boone's original price in pencil 2 Vols/ in one/ -1s-. Frontispiece similarly inscribed in pencil by Boone, without the price.
Binding C18th mottled calf, blind-ruled borders, gilt-panelled spine, brown morocco spine-label. Two volumes bound in one.
