Hoffmann, 1796.
296 p.; 16.5 cm. (8º)

On green paper. Includes: 'Les Pâtres des Pyrénées. Ou Fragment D'Un voyage fait en 1778' (pp. 240--259). Madame de Genlis, best known for her writings on children's education such as Adèle et Théodore (1783 ed., q.v.), was governess to the children of the Duchesse de Chartres, and a literary correspondent of Napoleon. After the fall of the Girondins she emigrated to Switzerland, then Berlin and eventually Hamburg; this is a response to allegations concerning the author's relations with the émigrés of Hamburg and with her former pupil, Monsieur de Chartres.

Copy Notes Reader's marginal markings in ink passim.
