The dedication plate (dated 1665) credits Falda as the draughstman and engraver; an earlier state of the title-plate of Libro I (q.v.) also bears the date 'j665'. Libro II and III are undated, but probably first appeared by 1667 and 1669 respectively. The title-plate of Libro IV is dated '1699', and that of Libro V '1739'. The plates were unnumbered in their earliest state and BAL 1019 suggests the numbers were not added before 1699; the de' Rossi plates passed to the Camera Aposotolica c. 1737. The present copy is bound in one volume in a mid-eighteenth century binding and has all the plates in numbered states and some of the earlier plates have been retouched, including the addition of a thin border within the thick border of the title-plates to Lib. II and III. The plates are printed on two paper stocks: Lib. I-III are watermarked with a fleur-de-lys in a double-line circle, Lib. IV with the watermark and countermarks of the 'Rev. Camera Apostolica', and Lib. V with a mix of the two papers, suggesting it was issued by the Camera Apostolica in 1739 or after. The plates in Libro IV are by Specchi; most of those in Libro V are drawn and engraved by Giuseppi Vasi; others are by J.L. Le Geay, Bernardo Sgrilla, De Liegé, P.F. Duflos and Pierre Parrocel. See BAL, Early printed books, no. 1019 (Lib. I, plates in unnumbered states); Fowler Cat. 116 (Lib. I-III, plates in unnumbered states); BAL 3144 and Fowler 339 (Lib. IV); Fowler 78 (Lib. V).
