The plates, etched title-page vignette and portrait of the dedicatee (Pope Pius VI) are printed in bistre. Title-page printed in red and black. The final three plates of triumphal columns and obelisks are not described or otherwise called for in this text, but were originally published in Barbault's Les plus beaux monuments de Rome ancienne, 1761 (q.v.), pl. 28--30.

Copy Notes This copy has all plates either in unnumbered states or before their re-numbering for the present compilation, with plate and figure numbers inscribed in red ink. Bought from J. Williams for £2 12s. 6d. in August 1831. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.7.13). First front free-endpaper inscribed on verso in ink C.1.EE.10/ CC.10; second front free-endpaper inscribed in pencil Gr. [or Gr.?] P. 5-5:0.

Binding Presentation copy, contemporary C18th calf binding, both covers elaborately tooled in gilt with foliage and floral border motifs enclosing the arms of Pope Pius VI, zephyr and lily motifs repeated in alternate gilt-tooled spine compartments (original gilt-lettered leather spine label missing), gilt edges.
