The dedication is signed 'Caylus'. Volume VI, published in 1764, was originally intended to be the last; it was followed by volume VII, a supplement, in 1767. Volumes III to VII have title: Recueil d'antiquités égyptiennes, étrusques, grecques, romaines et gauloises. Imprint varies: volume II 'Chez Duchesne, Libraire'; vols IV--VII 'Chez N. M. Tilliard, Libraire'. In vol. III of Soane copy 2 the engraved head-piece to the preface is repeated above the half-title.

Copy Notes Copy 1: With some marginal pencil notes and translations from the French (some in Soane's hand). The first rear free-endpaper of vol. I has a pencil sketch of a man's profile. With vol. I inscribed in pencil on front free-endpapers Collated & Perfect 7 vol iw: and in a different hand 7 tom. 9l.9s.0.

: 25.5 cm. Purchased from Priestley & Weale, 24 May 1826 for 8 guineas. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.8). With the booksellers' label of Priestley & Weale pasted in on front pastedown-endpapers of all the volumes except vol. II. Inscribed in pencil on front free-endpaper of vol. I 7 Tom / £8.8.0, bookseller's cipher on rear free-endpaper.

Binding Copy 1: C18th mottled calf, double blind-rule borders, gilt-tooled spines, maroon morocco spine-labels.
Copy 2: C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spines, red and green morocco spine-labels.
