The divinity college, founded by James I in 1609, was entirely rebuilt by Wren from 1682--92 as Chelsea Royal Hospital. Soane was clerk of the works to the Royal Hospital from 1807 until his death, and between 1809 and 1817 made additions to the Clerk of the Works' House and built the new infirmary and stables. With a dedication to Charles II. The final leaf contains a catalogue of books sold by J. Bourne. Wing 259; ESTC r24871.

Copy Notes Bought from T. & W. Boone for 1 guinea on 15 September 1827. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.12). Another copy from George Hibbert's library (lot 2471 in a blue morocco binding), which was sold for £2 10s. at auction by Evans in 1829, lot 2471, was offered to Soane in the same year by Boone. (Spiers Box). However, there is no evidence that Soane bought a second copy.
