This is the second edition of de L'Orme's important architectural treatise first issued in 1567. Further issues of the first edition appeared in 1568, 1576 (q.v.) and 1603. For the second edition the text was reset and modified and a shorter edition of de L'Orme's first publication, Nouvelles inventions pour bien bastir (first ed.: Paris 1561) included as books X and XI. Copy Notes Marginal notes in ink, in a C17th (?) French hand, in book V on the orders. Inscribed in ink on verso of front free-endpaper 1-1-0, and in a fainter hand m/n.

Binding C18th calf, gilt roll-tool borders with corner ornaments, gilt-tooled spine, red morocco spine-label.
