DESCRIPTION DE L'ÉGYPTE ...
[Description de l'Égypte. 2nd ed. 1819. Prospectus]
Description de l'Égypte, ou recueil des observations et des recherches faites en Égypte pendant l'expédition de l'armée française. Second [sic] édition, dediée au roi.
[London], [1819?].
3, [1] p. ; 25.2 cm. (4°)

Drop-head title. Watermark dated 1819. Publication of the second edition of the Description de l'Égypte, 'in twenty-five volumes, octavo, and the Plates in one hundred and eighty livraisons, of five Plates each', was begun in 1820 by the Parisian bookseller C.L.F. Panckoucke and completed in 1830. This prospectus, giving details of the terms and price to subscribers (7s. 6d. per volume and 12s. 6d. per livraison of plates), was issued by Rodwell and Martin, the agents for selling the work in England, presumably in the latter part of 1819, since it is stated that 'the publication will commence on the First of February next' (p. 3). The first edition was issued in livraisons between 1809 and 1828 (q.v.). Soane did not subscribe to this smaller-format edition.

Copy Notes Originally folded, sealed, and addressed in ink on the last blank page to John Soane Esqr / Lincoln's Inn Fields. Bound (15) in a collection of pamphlets on painting.
