This anonymous defence of the Duke's battered reputation as an effective and politically impartial commander-in-chief of the British army was first published in 1808, before the corruption scandal broke in the House of Commons on 27 January 1809 which forced his resignation on 18 March of that year.

Copy Notes Inscribed in pencil on title-page 2/6. Paper wrappers bound in, the front inscribed in ink John Soane; the inner sides containing part of a pencil and ink plan with measurements for a 38' wall at an angle to a building.

Binding Bound in a numbered series of late 19th century half calf pamphlet volumes. (Archive, Trustees' Minutes 18 June 1866). With binder's stamp 'Bound By Mansell' on front pastedown.
