DUPIN, Charles, baron (1784--1873)
Notice nécrologique sur John Rennie, Esq. ingénieur civil, ... addressée a l'Institut royal de France, par Charles Dupin, membre de l'Institut royal de France, ...
Londres chez Martin Bossange et Cnie, 1821.
20 p. ; 22.5 cm. (8°)

The subject of this obituary had vouched for Soane, who became a Fellow of the Royal Society in the month after Rennie's death in October 1821. At the time of his death, Rennie had been appointed to rebuild London Bridge after having condemned the old bridge and advised the City to rebuild it. In the event the work was undertaken by Rennie's son, Sir John Rennie (1794--1874). Soane was a great admirer of the achievements of engineers and their role in expanding the possibilities of architecture. The pamphlet's title-page verso contains a list of 'Ouvrages publiés par le même Auteur, qui se trouvent chez Martin Bossange et Co.' The printer is named at the foot of the title-page verso and of p. 20 as G. Schulze.

Binding Bound in a numbered series of late 19th century half calf pamphlet volumes. (Archive, Trustees' Minutes 18 June 1866). With binder's stamp 'Bound By Mansell' on front pastedown.
