First published in 1705. The 'Approbation' of this new, augmented edition is dated 27 August 1745 and gives the author's name as M. Frezier. Frezier was one of the Ingénieurs du Roi and director of fortifications in Brittany. He is best known, however, as an architectural critic and opponent of Laugier's. The three vignettes (p. [1], 47, [383]) were designed by C. N. Cochin (1715--1790). Printer's statement from colophon: De l'imprimerie de Jacques Chardon.
