It is safe to assume that the library of mainly 18th-century British architectural books belonged to John Hobcraft (c. 1720--1802), carpenter and builder. However, it is uncertain whether the vendor, Martha Hobcraft, was his widow or his daughter-in law; his son John (1747--c. 1778) entered the R.A. Schools as an architect and exhibited until 1778.
