Engraved throughout. Several of the plates are dated 1720, 1721 or 1725 and most are signed as engraved (or 'term[in]é') by Louis Surugue de Surgis (c.1686--1762) after drawings by J.M. Chevotet. Surugue's imprint and/or excudit appears on all the plates (except on the engraved text plates and pl.24). The introductory engraved text is signed by L.C. Le Fevre. The engraving of the staircase ceiling (pl. 24) by Charles Simonneau l'aíné (1645-1728), is dedicated to 'Monsieur de Cotte, Escuier Conseiller du Roy ... et Ordonnateur general des Bâtimens, Jardins, et Manufactures de France'; it may also have had an independent existence as an individually issued print. Plates 1, 3, 6, 16 and 24 are double-page. BAL, Early printed books, no. 1796; Millar I, 89.

Binding C19th half blue calf, gilt thick-thin ruled spine, red spine-label, marbled-paper boards. Round paper spine-label at foot of spine lettered '918'.
