On the publication of part III in January 1822 an additional fourth part was announced, however this is not known to have been published. Part I was first published in 1819, but the small edition soon sold out. Soane's copy is made up from the 'Second Edition' of part I published in 1821, and the first edition of part II published in 1820 and part III in 1822, with the title-pages reading: ... comprehending the history of the progress of Indian literature, and anecdotes of literary characters, in Britain, during a period of thirty years. The author's Indian antiquities first appeared in seven volumes, 1793--1806 (q.v.).

Copy Notes Sent by the author with an ALs dated British Museum. / 26th. December. 1821., thanking Soane for the privilege he was kind enough to / ... allow him of sending him his / "Memoirs"; of which only 250 copies are printed, / and may not, therefore, be to be obtained in a / short time ... / ... The other / little dramatic publication he begs his accept-/ ance of, as he would of the "Memoirs", also, but / as their bulk is becoming considerable, he is com-/ pelled very much to limit the number of pre-/ sentations ... (Priv. Corr. XVI.F.16). The second publication has not been identified.

Binding C19th calf, gilt double-rule borders and spine, black spine-label reading 'Memoirs Of/ An Author'.
