The plates, designed and engraved by Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727--1785) who worked with Milizia in Rome, were first published in 1800 as an atlas to the first edition of 1781. Tome I has III letterpress tables, printed on p. 107 and both sides of a folded leaf inserted between pp. 108--9 respectively. The eight plates from the 1785 Bassano edition (q.v.) are also included in tome III.

Copy Notes This copy of the Principi, sold at Christie's John Sanders sale (q.v.), lot 52 on the first day, was bought by Soane from T. & W. Boone for 1 guinea on 19 April 1826. (Spiers Box). John Sanders (1768--1826) was Soane's first pupil, entering his office in 1784 and leaving in 1790.

Binding C19th Italian half vellum, marbled-paper boards, red and green spine-labels reading 'Milizia/ Architettu/ Civile'. Endpapers with the watermark of Gi. Bta. Ghigliottj.
