Drop-head title. Page [4] is blank. Text of prospectus dated at end 'January 1816.' The two-volume work, to consist of ten parts 'each containing Forty Pages of Letter Press, and Five Engravings, of which three will be finished Plates in the Line Manner, and two Etchings', was to be 'completed in about two years from the publication of the first Part'. Subscribers were able to choose from two main sizes depending on their purse: ordinary 'Medium quarto' copies at 16s. per part; and large paper 'Imperial quarto' copies at £1 4s. 0d. In addition 25 of the imperial quarto copies were to be printed 'with Proofs and Etching on India Paper', together with a further 25 'to correspond with the large paper of the new edition of Dugdale's Monasticon', the price per part being in each case £2 12s. 6d. And just to make sure purchasers of the ordinary paper issue of Dugdale were not left out, 50 copies of Neale's work were also to be printed 'to correspond with the small paper of the new edition', price £1 11s. 6d. per part. The sixth part, completing volume I, was published on 1 June 1818, on which date an advertisement appeared (q.v.), containing the decision to expand it to twelve parts; by May 1823 the work was available complete in two volumes (q.v.).
