50 pl. ; 47.9 cm. (2º)

Plates 48-50 bear the imprint of Domenico de' Rossi, who inherited the business and premises around 1691. This collection of plates forming a natural successor to de' Rossi's earlier collection of plans, elevations and sections of Roman churches Insignium Romæ templorum prospectus ..., 1684 (q.v.) was probably first issued in 1687 or 1688, and an earlier state may be represented by the Royal Academy copy having only 40 plates. For a detailed discussion see BAL, Early printed books, no. 2844.

Copy Notes One copy bought from Peter Law for £0.14.6, 9 September 1805. (Spiers Box).
Copy 1: Bound (2) with de' Rossi's Insignium Romæ templorum prospectus ..., 1684 (q.v., copy 2) in a volume inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper in an Italian hand Insignium Romæ Templ. [illegible - note to binder?] 6:30 velie.
Copy 2: 50.4 cm. Untrimmed edges.
Copy 3: 49.2 cm. The title-plates of this copy and Soane copy 3 of Insignium Romæ templorum prospectus (q.v.) have been transposed by the binder, both volumes having been rebound by Peter Low in September 1805 (see binding notes).
Copy 4: 48.7 cm. Bound (2) with copies of de' Rossi's Insignium Romæ templorum prospectus ..., 1684 (q.v., copy 1), Ferrerio's Palazzi di Roma (q.v., copy 4), and Falda's Giardini di Roma (q.v., copy 1). The volume's contents and the numbers of the plates are listed in ink in an earlier English hand on the front free-endpaper, which has the upper fore-edge corner excised as if to remove an ownership inscription. The front pastedown inscribed in ink Cat and in pencil with 1.11.6; booksellers' codes in ink and pencil on the rear endpapers.
