The descriptive text is by Girolamo Ticciati - cf. 'Dedicatoria'. The engraved portrait by Vincenzo Franceschini is of Senator Giovanni Batista Nelli who was superintendent of the building works. The plates are numbered I--VII, IX--XIII, XIII½, XIV--XVII. Figure VIII is printed on the lower part of pl. VII. Plate XIII½ showing the facade of the Duomo is not called for in the text. BAL, Early printed books, no. 2983.

Copy Notes Copy 1: Front free-endpaper inscribed in pencil from Boone. Bought from T. & W. Boone for 12s. on 19 January 1826. (Spiers Box). With the device of a winged bird-claw and motto 'Virtute Duce' stamped on front pastedown. Front pastedown inscribed in pencil Collated [remainder obscured by Soane's bookplate]; front free-endpaper inscribed in pencil 1548; rear free-endpaper inscribed in pencil ^/-.
Copy 2: 48.0 cm. Deckle edges. Probably the copy bought at Christie's sale, 16--17 February 1815, lot 89 for £1 13s. 0d., with two other items. (See marked up copy of sale catalogue in Christie's archive.) Rear pastedown inscribed in ink tf.

Binding Copy 1: C18th mottled calf, blind-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spine with daffodils and carnations, tan morocco spine-label.
Copy 2: C18th light blue paper boards, white paper spine, paper spine-label lettered in ink 'B.S. Sgrilli./ Sta Maria del Fiore/ Firenze'.
