Drop-head title. A dealer's account of how he has successfully rescued Hogarth's original painting of 'A Modern Midnight Conversation' and a companion piece from the walls of the demolished Elephant public house in Fenchurch Street (cf. Annual Register, 10 January 1826, p. 3; Redford, Art sales, 1888, Vol. II, p. 54). Soane had acquired Hogarth's original paintings of 'The Rake's Progress' series in 1802 and those of 'The Election' series in 1823.

Copy Notes With original marbled-paper wrappers bound in. Inscribed in ink at foot of p.4 The Pictures (on Sale) may be seen, gratis, on the production / of this Pamphlet, at Mr. Pinney's Gallery 53. Pall Mall / [signed] Wm Lyon / 5 Apollo Buildings / East Street / Walworth. Bound last with five other pamphlets.

Binding Later C19th half calf, blind double-rule borders, brown cloth boards, blind- and gilt-ruled spine, black spine-label, gilt-lettered 'Pamphlets / Piranesi Etc'. Numbered '53' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
