First published in 1642. Early copies are bibliographically complex and no two copies have been found to be identical. By 1647 the plates were in the hands of Filippo de' Rossi who produced the present edition, reprinting the text without alteration and adding new material consisting of an address to the reader and a section entitled 'Pvrpvrei Cycni' printed largely from intaglio plates with divisional title-leaf printed in sepia (once purple?) ink and paginated [1]--35, [1] with a letterpress note on recto and verso of the last leaf, which is inserted before the index. Pages 197--[212] are eight full-page engraved portraits also lettered A--H, versos blank. Pages 213--[218] are three double-page plates also lettered I, L, M, versos blank. Pages 219--[22] are three full-page plates also lettered N--P, the last being pl. [2] from the 1642 edition. See notes to BAL, Early printed books, no. 3292 (1642 ed.).

Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper (not by Soane) See p. 136,7,8,9,170,1 of a very ingenious Vol. in 8vo published in 1777/ intitled Viaggian. (See the Lond: Mag: for Jan: in that year p.45. Col 2 (?) and in pencil 1.11.6.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-rule spine, red morocco spine-label.
