The plates were issued between June 1809 and July 1812 in 12 cahiers each containing 6 plates. Little is known about Vauthier, but Pierre Lacour (1745--1814), painter, engraver, and director of the Académie de peinture in Bordeaux, was influential in saving works of art from destruction during the French Revolution which were subsequently deposited in the Musée de Bordeaux.

Copy Notes Bought for Soane by E. Conduitt from J. Salmon in Paris for 40 francs, 9 September 1819. (Priv. Corr. XIV.B.4.2.). The front free-endpaper inscribed in pencil EC-2-. Two rough pencil sketches of a heraldic eagle on the rear free-endpaper.

Binding C19th half sheep, paste-paper boards imitating tree calf, gilt roll-tooled spine.
