Part 1 and 2 first published in 1719, part 3 in 1720. Parts 2 and 3 have separate undated title-pages with the imprint 'Printed for W. Chetwood, J. Woodman, D. Brown, and S. Chapman; pagination and register are continuous. This was the first prose fiction of the actress and author Eliza Haywood, and draws on French romances while anticipating in some respects the later development of the English novel. The frontispiece is signed E. Kirkall. With five final pages of advertisments of books printed for and sold by D. Browne. ESTC t170331.
